Emma McPherson
DDL Founder & Elite K9 Instructor
At the helm of the Detection Dog League stands Emma McPherson, a 21-year law enforcement veteran with over a decade of specialist K9 operations under her belt. Emma isn’t just another dog trainer—she’s a battle-tested leader who’s been in the field, led the search, and deployed working dogs on real-world missions.
Field-Ready Expertise:
Emma has led explosive and firearms detection operations, hunting down threats in high-risk environments with precision and determination.
Breaking Barriers:
She became the first and (to date) only female general-purpose (apprehension and tracking) K9 handler for the Australian Federal Police, paving the way for future generations.
Elite Training Credentials:
Emma has trained and supplied detection K9 for Special Forces, proving that scent work is a game-changer at the highest levels.
Mission Beyond the Norm:
Not stopping with traditional policing, Emma showcased her tracking prowess without her K9 buddies as a Ground Hunter on Channel 10’s Hunted Australia, where her skills were put to the test in a national manhunt.
Detection for All:
Recognizing that detection isn’t just for crime-fighting, she founded Muddy Pawz, consulting and deploying truffle detection dogs across Australia and the U.S. to track down Truffles, one of nature’s most valuable treasures.
Versatile Training Expertise:
Emma also runs Allied K9—a nationally recognized dog training business that perfects both pet and working dog skills. Nationally qualified in dog training and behaviour through NDTF, she brings proven, innovative techniques to every canine mission.

When it comes to real-world detection work, Stuart’s boots-on-the-ground experience is unmatched. With over a decade in the field as both a working dog handler and trainer, Stuart has earned his stripes leading high-stakes K9 deployments and training teams for critical missions. Now he is ready to take you and your dog through DDL recruit training and more!
